Dr. John R. Mangiardi is an esteemed neurosurgeon and medical innovator with over three decades of experience in neurosurgery, healthcare technology, and medical device design. After an extensive career as Chief of Neurosurgery at Lenox Hill Hospital from 1991 to 2006, Dr. Mangiardi founded Optimus Services LLC in 2005, a pioneering company focused on revolutionizing operating room infrastructure and technology. He later relocated the company to Zurich, Switzerland, where it evolved into Optimus Services AG, collaborating with top Swiss engineers to develop groundbreaking medical innovations.

Trained at world-renowned institutions, including the University of California, San Francisco, and New York University, Dr. Mangiardi’s neurosurgical expertise is matched by his entrepreneurial drive and visionary approach to healthcare design. His work led to the creation of the Optimus Integrated Surgical Environment (ISE), a fully integrated and sterilizable operating room system that streamlines equipment control, information systems, and supply chain management through a single user interface. This project, encompassing 24 patented components, represents the first comprehensive redesign of the operating room since World War II, and has been tested at the University Hospital Clinic in Barcelona.

In addition to his work with Optimus, Dr. Mangiardi co-founded Vycor Medical in 2005, a medical device company specializing in minimally invasive brain and spinal access devices. He is the inventor of several innovative products for Vycor Medical, contributing significantly to the company’s intellectual property portfolio with three patents to his name. Following the liquidation of Optimus Services AG in 2019, Dr. Mangiardi co-founded DATUS Surgical BV in the Netherlands. DATUS Surgical continues his mission of developing cutting-edge healthcare solutions by bringing together experts from various industries, including aeronautics, project management, and nanotechnology, to create innovative systems for surgical environments.
